The Spin presents: Art Themen featuring Ross Stanley @ OXTWO - Sunday 31st August, Doors 7pm
Doors for event: 7pm
Performance from 8pm
N.B. Kitchen open 6.00pm - 8.00pm
The Spin welcomes back the much-loved, brilliant saxophonist, Art Themen!
Themen is still absolutely at the top of his game having had a full-on career, much of it spent with Britain’s national treasure pianist, Stan Tracey. With Tracey, Themen toured all over the world and recorded on arguably the U.K.’s most cherished jazz album, ‘Under Milk Wood’.
As a member of Stan Tracey’s band, Themen was a regular at Ronnie Scott’s and in that tenure, performed with such U.S. greats as Nat Adderly, Red Rodney and George Coleman (amongst scores of others). It is a real treat to have Art come and perform for the Spin again.
We are also delighted to be featuring the completely outstanding organ player, Ross Stanley. Ross is rightly one of the most in-demand ‘Hammond’ players in the country and he will be purveying his virtuosic, groove-fuelled fare, further contributing to the incendiary vibe of the Spin band!
And…anybody that came to the Jon Lloyd/John Law gig at OXTWO will surely have been blown away by the musicianship of the drummer, Alex Goodyear; well, we’re thrilled to have Alex returning to perform again at The Spin for this special gig.
Last year’s gig with Art sold out very quickly…so please take our advice for this one: book NOW!!
Returns Policy:
As these Sunday shows require extra admin on our side, we're unfortunately unable to accept ticket returns for these events. Thanks for your understanding.
A note about the venue:
- We have brought the ‘doors’ time forward to 6pm as food is popular at the OXTWO. This allows for orders to be better staggered over the course of the evening.
- We seat people as much as possible on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. This means that those who buy tickets first are allocated the better seats (as opposed to that allocation being for those that show up first on the night)…so, BOOK NOW (and also save £5 off the ticket prices with our early bird deal)!!
- We are ready to support people who have additional accessibility needs, please let us know in advance via the contact form in order for our team of volunteers to design the assigned seating plan to accommodate you.
- There is no dedicated parking for the venue, but there are local car parks and on-street parking available in Summertown.

Over the last 20+ years, The Spin has presented live music of the highest calibre within the broad 'contemporary jazz' genre, creating scintillating nights out for anybody with a taste for interesting, exciting, alluring and luscious music.
At The Spin, we believe that our events should be accessible to all, as well as affordable. This, in part, is only made possible with the help of our team of generous volunteers, who volunteer not only their time but also their expertise towards making our gigs the success that they are.
Every musician who plays at The Spin gets properly paid - and it is through your ticket purchases alone that we can do that. Our events are run on a tight budget to keep ticket prices down; we realise that not everyone can afford or may be willing to pay for higher ticket prices. However, for those of you who are happy to pay a little more and contribute further to the efforts of The Spin, we are giving you the opportunity to ’support the club' by making a voluntary contribution on top of your ticket price. These donations will be greatly appreciated and will help us to continue putting on our fantastic live jazz events.
