Described by Pat Metheny as “one of the best guitarists in the world”, John continues to thrill audiences across the world – as he has been over the decades, performing with such luminaries as Stephane Grapelli, Nigel Kennedy, Andy Summers (of The Police), John Williams, Soft Machine….and indeed, Pat Metheny!
Soundscapes from Turkey to Brazil!
This gig features The Spin’s own Pete Oxley, alongside his long-term guitar brother, Nicolas Meier, in a band purveying the broadest range of guitar stylings in a set of “utterly captivating original music” (The Guardian).
We welcome to The Spin another new ‘supergroup’ led by the brilliant keyboardist Roland Perrin!
Roland has had a prolific career ranging from latin to classical and world music. In this latter category, he has toured with renowned international stars, such as Juan de Marcos (Buena Vista Social Club), Dudu Pukwana (South Africa), Aster Aweke (Ethiopia) and Najma (India),
The Spin is truly delighted to host this top-flight band from New York. On their 2025 European tour, this is to be their only gig in the UK aside from Ronnie Scott’s!
An artist with little need for introductions, Elliot Galvin is a long-time trailblazer in the UK jazz firmament with four solo albums that have seen him top album of the year lists at the likes of Downbeat and Jazzwise, as well as being a member of the Mercury nominated band, Dinosaur.
Performing covers from the greats and original compositions created in the spirit of Milton Nascimento, Tom Jobim, Joao Bosco and Hermeto Pascoal, this unique band display a range of Brazilian musical styles with artful group jazz improvisation and mesmerising interplay between it’s band members.
Following a storming session at The Spin, two years ago, leading UK pianist Jonathan Gee (a 25-year veteran of The Spin ) returns with the incredible Italian altoist Gaetano Partipilo, this time with an all Italian rhythm section of Pierluigi Balducci on bass and Fabio Accardi drums.
One of the Spin’s most popular – and certainly most virtuosic – guests returns to The Spin with his outstanding band: Nicolas Meier! His ‘World Group’ has a unique sound, incorporating a meld of Middle Eastern, Turkish, jazz and fusion influences.
Following Jazz Samba’s recent appearance at Ronnie Scott’s, the club, in their review of the gig stated: “their love of jazz and samba oozed from every note played, and the final encore & applause reflected the joy given out by them to a very grateful audience”
The Spin opens it’s 2025 programme with a band led by two of the most exciting guitarists to emerge from the UK in recent years. Out of a mutual respect for each other’s playing, Chris Montague and Ant Law have formed a quartet with brand new material written together. The band will feature the incredible Conor Chaplin on bass and Jamie Murray on drums.
Two years ago, our Christmas gig was a one-off by an un-named band, put together to play the music of Joni Mitchell. To the band’s surprise, this got rapid traction and by 2024, they were playing 50 gigs in the year all over the UK and Ireland, selling out at London’s Jazz Café and playing prestigious festivals in jazz, folk and world-music genres. By their second gig they had adopted the name, Hejira.
The Pete Roth Quartet features leader Pete on guitar, Mike Pratt on bass, Simon Bates on saxophone and the incomparable Bill Bruford as a special guest on drums.
