The Spin presents: Theo Travis & the Christmas Super-Group! @ Tap Social, Botley, Oxford - Wednesday 10th December, Doors 7.30pm

£12.00

Doors: 7.30pm
Performance from 8.30pm

Firstly, The Spin would like to thank EVERYONE that has supported the club through 2025 and has kept it thriving and happening! Please continue to be a part of this, to keep it a place where the best musicians – from the UK and beyond – clamour to come and perform!

…which brings us to the last gig of the year: a ‘supergroup celebration’ with this jazztastic outfit!

The line up features:
Theo Travis: saxophones
Liam Dunachie: ‘Hammond’ organ
Marc Cecil: percussion
Sophie Alloway: drums
Pete Oxley: guitar

Just a few words about these maestros:

Theo Travis has long been regarded as one of the best saxophonists in the country. Aside from a ‘who’s who’ list of colleagues in the jazz world, Theo has been the first call saxophonist for such major rock stars as David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Robert Fripp (King Crimson) and Gong. He has for many years been leading the pioneering jazz-rock band, Soft Machine.

Liam Dunachie is, alongside Ross Stanley, a complete master of the organ. With a phenomenal groove and fearsome technique, Liam is regarded as the leading player of his generation on this outrageous instrument. Permanently in demand, Liam has worked with Jim Mullen, Gareth Malone (BBC’s ‘The Choir’), Beverly Knight, Dennis Rollins, Derek Nash and is currently touring with DJ Tony Blackburn’s ‘Sounds of the 60s’.

Marc Cecil is the ever-popular percussionist, heard in Oxford with Hejira (and others!). He was a member of ‘King Salsa’, the UK’s premier salsa band for 17 years. Aside from extensive West End theatre work, Marc has worked with Jason Rebello, Liane Carroll, Art Themen, Guthrie Govan, Jacqui Hicks and Derek Nash

Sophie Alloway, whose moniker on Jazz FM is “the Goddess of Groove”, brings a brilliant, incandescent fire to any band she performs in! For example, her colleagues include such diverse artists as Guthrie Govan, Mornington Lockett, Tony Kofi, Jay Rayner and Yazz Ahmed.

Pete Oxley has fronted the house band at The Spin – for a long time!! As a result, he has accompanied most of the UK’s great players, aside from his activities as a bandleader (he is one of only a handful of British composers to have his works included in the ‘New European Real Book’ [Sher Publication]). He currently leads the UK’s leading band performing the music of Joni Mitchell, ‘Hejira’.

A joyous, happening and engaging programme will be presented for this, the Spin’s Christmas gig. PLEASE do not miss this; folks, hit the button above to BOOK NOW!!!
