The Spin welcomes back – after far too long a hiatus – the fabulous pianist, Kate Williams with her long-established trio, featuring the outrageously talented multi-flautist, Gareth Lockrane! Here’s the full line-up:

Gareth Lockrane - flutes
Kate Williams - piano
Oli Hayhurst - bass
David Ingamells - drums

Kate has released several CDs, each one to critical acclaim, including ‘Made Up’ and ‘Atlas And Vulcana’ (with her septet) and ‘Smoke And Mirrors'‘ (with tenor saxophonist, the late, great Bobby Wellins). She has worked with a plethora of first-class musicians and bands including Stan Sulzmann, Nikki Iles, Art Themen, Chris Biscoe’s Mingus Moves and the Pete Hurt Jazz Orchestra.

In 2020, Kate won the ‘Album of the Year’ Parliamentary Jazz Award for ‘Finding Home’, a collaboration between her project Four Plus Three and vocalist Georgia Mancio.

Her latest CD ‘On The Wing Of A Dragonfly’ was released in May 2026 to widespread acclaim. Here are a couple of press quotes, following that release:

…“Immensely likeable music…distinctive and wholehearted, the trio as one”
Jazzwise (editor’s choice) **** April 2026

…“terrific latest release by Kate Williams, one of the British jazz scene’s most eloquent and best-kept secrets.”
John Fordham, UK Jazz News, April 2026

For this gig, the trio are joined by long-standing musical comrade, the award-winning flautist Gareth Lockrane for a varied programme of music including some from Kate’s recently released album ‘On The Wing Of A Dragonfly’ as well as pieces by A.C. Jobim, Bill Evans, Fats Waller and Mulgrew Miller.

Kate’s band will feature these top-drawer players:

Gareth Lockrane is an award-winning jazz flautist, composer and arranger who has worked with a vast range of musicians and ensembles including the late Bheki Mseleku, James Taylor Quartet, Dick Oatts, Gwilym Simcock, Christine Tobin, and the Heritage Orchestra. Gareth runs his own big band which has recorded two critically acclaimed albums to date.

Oli Hayhurst is one of the UK's top bass players having worked with artists including Pharaoh Saunders (2012 - 2022), Jacqui Dankworth, Julian Siegel, Georgia Mancio, Alan Broadbent, Ian Shaw and many more.

David Ingamells has established himself as one of the most versatile jazz drummers of his generation. He performs regularly at all the major jazz clubs in the UK such as Ronnie Scott’s, the Vortex, the 606, Cafe Oto, and Pizza Express Live, as well as concert halls including the Royal Albert Hall, Southbank Centre and Cadogan Hall.
