The Spin presents: The Shez Raja band featuring Guthrie Govan @ Tap Social, Botley, Oxford - Wednesday 8th July, Doors 7.30pm

£18.00

Doors: 7.30pm
Performance from 8.30pm

Folks…this might just be the ‘gig of the Spin’s history’!!!

Firstly, bandleader Shez Raja is an exceptional bass player of crazy ability, imagination and inventiveness!

Voted one of the “Hottest Bass Players in the World” by Bass Player magazineShez Raja is a boundary-pushing bassist and electrifying performer who has drawn comparisons to Jaco Pastorius. Playing a fusion of Indo-jazz, funk and groove, he has collaborated with icons including Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Wayne Krantz and Trilok Gurtu. To avoid too many words here, just check out his biog here.

Then, add to the front line, the unfeasibly brilliant guitarist, Guthrie Govan, and you’ll know that this is going to be one heck of a night at The Spin!

Please don’t just take our word for this…you know about Rick Beato, right? (If not: Rick is a YouTube sensation that is massively knowledgable about many styles of music; his reputation is such that all the A-listers queue up to be interviewed by him. For example, search for ‘Rick Beato interviews Keith Jarret’ – or John Scofield or Pat Metheny or Sting etc etc…these are in-depth interviews.)

Anyway, this video that Rick made about Guthrie will give you the picture; please take some time to watch it!!

Completing this stellar line-up are long-time collaborators Chris Jerome (Courtney Pine) on keyboards and one of the Spin's favourites,  Sophie Alloway – dubbed the ‘Goddess of Groove’ by Jazz FM – on drums.

Following spectacular sell-out performances at venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz ClubRoyal Festival Hall and The Jazz Café, as well as major international festivals from Europe to New Zealand, Shez and his band have built a devoted following and a reputation as one of the most exhilarating live acts today.

Now touring acclaimed new album Spellbound - featuring drum titan Dennis Chambers – Shez and Guthrie bring this exciting music to the stage.

Expect a spellbinding journey through euphoric jazz, thundering funk, cosmic improvisation and intoxicating grooves.
