Luis D’Agostino & the Argentinian Connection
Wednesday 25th September 2024
The Spin welcomes back – for the first time in a decade – the brilliant Argentinian guitarist, Luis D’Agostino!
Luis was resident in Oxford for some years in the early 2000s and was a hugely popular figure on the jazz scene, performing with such luminaries as Toni Kofi, Bobby Wellins, Jamie Cullum and Gilad Atzmon.
Luis came to international attention when touring with the supremely popular Argentinian ‘New Song’ movement, asserting his credentials as a feisty rock star! However, Luis was also equally at home playing sophisticated jazz voicings, having studied extensively with the American jazz guitar maestro, Joe Diorio.
For this gig, Luis reunites with his long-time UK collaborators, Pete Oxley and Raph Mizraki (founders of The Spin Jazz Club!) and brings in the excellent drummer, Rick Finlay, to complete the Argentinian Connection; they will be picking up from their last performances together when they played two sold-out shows at Ronnie Scott’s.
Luis was a much-loved performer when resident in the UK, given to deliver fiery and virtuosic renditions of all sorts, from tangos to contemporary jazz stylings.
