Sunday 19th June 2022

Mark Lockheart - saxophones

Elliot Galvin - keyboards

Tom Herbert - bass guitar

Dave Smith - drums

Many of you will know of this brilliant, inventive - and lyrical - saxophonist from his previous performances at The Spin (or elsewhere). If, however, you are new to Mark’s work, a very brief synopsis will give you a glimpse into his body of work:

Beginning with the ground-breaking group Loose Tubes, Mark then went on to work and record with such A-listers (from various genres) as Norma Winstone, June Tabor, Radiohead, Thomas Dolby and Kenny Wheeler (to name just a few). Mark has been awarded:

- Musician of the Year (Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2010)

- Album of the Year (MOJO 2013)

- Instrumentalist of the Year (Jazz FM 2016)

And now, to the forthcoming gig:

This new all star group explores Mark’s multi-faceted outlook on music through a new set of original compositions with this bold and unique sounding group. Urgent and exciting grooves and textures all cleverly crafted together within Lockheart’s unique and memorable melodies. Wide ranging influences from Ellington and Shorter to John Zorn, the Beatles and even Kraftwerk!

“From Loose Tubes to Polar Bear and beyond, Lockheart’s capacity to be ahead of the jazz curve is undeniable. In this new band his combination of lyrical economy and harmonic creativity has found three improvisatory soulmates who clearly know how to make the most of his compositions in their own terms.” - Jazzwise magazine

“Built from the past, but creating vivid potentials for the future, Dreamers is the stuff all good jazz is made of ★★★★” - Jazzwise magazine
