The Nick Costley-White Quartet
Wednesday 11th March 2026
Nick Costley-White is one of the most in-demand jazz guitarists in the UK, renowned for a deep understanding of the jazz tradition, alongside a virtuosic technique and progressive approach to improvising.
It’s a great pleasure to be able to welcome to The Spin for the first time, this top-drawer band led by the brilliant guitarist, Nick Costly-White. Nick has assembled an all-star line up, as follows:
Nick Costly-White: guitar
Julian Siegel: saxophones & bass clarinet
Conor Chaplin: double bass
James Maddren: drums
In their brief history, this band has already made 3 albums, garnering much critical acclaim. Here are just a few comments from the press:
“This is cool, sophisticated and elegant ensemble playing with Costley-White moving up another league” ~ Jazzwise
“The whole thing is happening at such a high level. It definitely felt like one of those evenings” ~ UK Jazz News
“Costley-White is very much stepping out as an individual and unique voice both as a guitarist and a composer, making this latest release a quiet triumph” ~ Jazz Views
Nick has performed in many of the most prestigious venues around Europe, including Ronnie Scott’s, The A-Trane (Berlin), Duc des Lombards (Paris), Gregory’s (Rome) and The Blue Note (Milan).
Many of you will be familiar with saxophonist Julian Siegel. Julian has been a leading figure on the British jazz scene for many years; he was named ‘Best Instrumentalist’ by the BBC Jazz Awards in 2007; MOJO magazine described Julian as “One of the UK's most creative saxophonists”.
Both Conor Chaplin and James Maddren are highly in demand for their outstanding contributions to contemporary jazz. You will find them in the company as such masters as Gwlym Simcock, Tom Ollendorff and Huw Warren (and countless others!).
This will be an evening of contemporary jazz of the highest order. Check out this nice little video of the band in the studio:
