Bossa Nouveau
Wednesday 24th November 2021
The Spin presents for this night an intimate gig at the charming Oxford restaurant, Branca. (The restaurant itself will be closed to all, other than Spin attendees!)
Bossa Nouveau is - to coin a cliché - 'what it says on the tin’! The band intends to bring both the cool and the heat of classic and contemporary South-American fare to you for this performance. So, expect to hear pieces from A.C. Jobim, Joao Gilberto, Sergio Mendez, Durval Ferriera along with material by the likes of Chick Corea and Pat Metheny.
The band is:
Ollie Weston - saxophone
Pete Oxley - guitar
Keith Fairbairn - percussion & drums.
Ollie totally covers the gamut of expression, whether required to play a la Getz or Brecker, so this music is a perfect setting for his fluid lyricism.
Pete plays exclusively 7-string nylon for this project, covering the bass duties and providing the harmonic content throughout.
Keith - a master of all percussion - brings all the requisite and ever-fascinating colours and groove to the band.
Between them, their collective CVs include performances and recordings with, among others, Mike Oldfield, Paul McCandless, Shirley Bassey, Nigel Kennedy, Tom Jones, Bobby Wellins, John Etheridge, Barbara Thompson…
This promises to be a special night - and something quite different to previous Spin gigs… as ever, please take advantage of the ‘early bird’ offer of a third off the ticket prices….and book NOW!
