Hejira: Celebrating Joni Mitchell

For this concert, The Spin has been invited by the wonderful Oxford Festival of the Arts to collaborate in presenting Hejira ~ celebrating Joni Mitchell.

The group is fronted by the prodigiously talented Hattie Whitehead (daughter of the most excellent saxophonist, Tim Whitehead, that many Spin fans will have heard over the years!). Hattie not only sings with the pitch-perfect assuredness of Mitchell, but also plays guitar in Joni’s style, utilising various ‘open tunings’, capturing the essential ‘colour’ of these songs.

This is a great 7-piece band, performing the music from Joni’s so-called ‘jazz period’, taking selections in particular from her album ‘Shadows & Light’.
