Joni Mitchell's 80th Birthday Celebration ~ performance by Hejira
Hejira is a 7-piece band that was initially set up for a one-off performance as a ‘Christmas Special’ at The Spin, 9 months ago. That gig had such a response that this thrown-together line up quickly became a ‘project' and is about to embark on an extensive UK tour this autumn. So far, all of their gigs have been sell-outs, so it is a coup to have booked the band to perform a special concert on Joni Mitchell’s 80th birthday!
Emily Saunders Band (featuring Snowboy)
Critically acclaimed vocalist, songwriter, producer Emily Saunders, dubbed UK’s ‘queen of jazz fusion’ takes the stage by storm, leading an exceptional band through her spellbinding set of original songs with ambient animated visuals. What sets Saunders apart is that her musical skill in front of the mic is matched equally with her talent behind it as composer, producer and MD.
Hejira: Celebrating Joni Mitchell
For this concert, The Spin has been invited by the wonderful Oxford Festival of the Arts to collaborate in presenting Hejira ~ celebrating Joni Mitchell.

Emily Saunders Band feat. Byron Wallen
‘An improvisational freedom that is rare in a debut recording’ - Jazzwise
Emily Saunders is a fine vocalist, tipped by John Fordham, jazz critic of the Guardian as a talent to watch out for in 2012 – we did and she brings her excellent band to the Spin. Playing numbers from her debut album ‘Cotton Skies’, Saunders mixes Brazilian grooves, great melodies and engaging solos.
