‘A bandleader of flair and unpredictability’ - James Griffiths - The Guardian
An incredibly accomplished and exciting pianist, Janette Mason, has covered most of the gigs on the contemporary music scene from her high profile work touring with artists like Seal, Oasis, k.d.Lang and Robert Wyatt, through the years on camera as Musical Director for Jonathan Ross, to her gigging at the top jazz clubs and festivals in Europe and States – including the Atlanta and Rochester Jazz Festivals, and Carnegie Hall for good measure. She is up there with the very best!
Her skills as a composer can be heard in countless Television adverts and programs from Sex and the City, The Drew Carey Show, to feature films like Ruby Blue (2008 MEDB Films) starring Bob Hoskins. Her arrangements for Ian Shaw’s Drawn to All Things reached the Grammy Ballot in 2008.
In 2009, Janette released, Din and Tonic, her first jazz album as leader which was shortlisted by Guardian Jazz Critic John Fordham as a contender for "Jazz Album of the Year." Her second album, Alien Left Hand, featuring Julian Siegel, Tom Arthurs, Lea DeLaria, garnered a Parliamentary Jazz nomination in 2010. Her trio includes two of the best of in the business – Dudley Phillips on bass and Pat Levett on drums.
