Tim Whitehead With The Spin Trio

Thursday 1st February 2018

'...it's not just his mastery of the tenor saxophone, phenomenal though it is, but the absolute conviction of his playing, that is so impressive' The Observer

A key musician on the British and European scenes for many years, it is a pleasure to welcome Tim Whitehead back to the club.

Tim established himself as one of the new voices on saxophone in this country when he joined Ian Carr's Nucleus for several albums and European tours; shortly after, he joined Loose Tubes in the late 80s, the British big band that forged a new path in British jazz with their blend of thrilling improvisation and great compositions.

In the recent past, Tim has been Artist in Residence at Tate Britain (the first musician to be given that honour) - a project that led to his album Colour Beginnings, recalling the work of J M W Turner.
