Time Is Of The Essence In….not a CD launch, not a book launch, but a world-first ‘LSL’ launch!

Thursday 24th November 2022

So…."what the heck is an ‘LSL’?", we hear, emanating from your puzzled minds - at some volume!

Well… it stands for ‘Look. Scan. Listen.’

And that is what you do with this lovely product to access (only via our website!) 12 great tracks - by 12 different artists/bands - recorded live at The Spin over the last year. With the aim of bringing together the glory of the vinyl format with the ease of our digital days, this has been put together in a hardback, 32 page book, resplendent with artwork, liner notes and, essentially, QR codes to take you to your chosen track!

There is also a bonus track ‘living page’ which - for anybody that purchases the LSL - will change in content from time to time. (This could be another live track, an interview, an artist’s CD preview, a video clip...).

Furthermore, on ‘The Long Play’ page, another QR code permits the listener to play the whole work as a continuous ‘double album’ (with all the usual abilities to select, skip, pause, fast forward etc.).

Turnaround Volume 1 will be available to purchase on the night, and can also be pre-ordered from our online store here. Needless to say, these will make perfect Christmas presents at £15 a copy!

And so to the music of this night: The chosen band for this auspicious night is the fabulous GROOVE band, ‘Time Is Of The Essence’, featuring the brilliant saxophonist, Ollie Weston (currently performing in stadiums all over the Far East!) and the outstanding drummer, Paul Cavaciuti!

The full line up is:

Ollie Weston ~ saxophones

Pete Oxley ~ guitars

Martin Pickett ~ Organ

Paul Cavaciuti ~ drums

Time Is Of The Essence is one of those bands that seems to have got the balance just right between edifying and entertaining its audience! The Observer, in reviewing a gig wrote that “there was never a dull moment throughout this highly engaging programme”!

As ever, the band will be performing original pieces ("finely honed, instantly appealing and right up there with any contemporary jazz writing…” ~ The Guardian) and fiesty fare by the likes of Steely Dan, John Scofield and Stevie Wonder.

The list of musicians that this group have worked with will give some indication of their flexibility of styles; between them they have performed or recorded with, among many others: Mike Oldfield, Shirley Bassey, Amy Winehouse, Sax Appeal, Tim Minchin, Nigel Kennedy, John Etheridge, Paul McCandles (Oregon), Anita Wardell, Barbara Thompson….
