Chris Eldred & The Spin Special

Thursday 9th February 2023

The Spin is delighted to welcome as a guest for the first time, the outstanding pianist, Chris Eldred!

Some of you may have heard Chris at the end of last year in the Joni Mitchell band, ‘Hejira’ at Tap Social. In that setting, Chris was mostly playing (totally appropriately) ‘parts’, in service to the songs. There were a couple of instrumentals in the gig in which Chris let rip - and it was immediately evident how vibrantly virtuosic he can be given the setting! It was knowing this that made us want to book Chris at the earliest opportunity to really showcase his brilliant piano playing!

Chris first came to prominence while playing in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO), from 2008 to 2014. In the midst of that period, he was winner of the 2011 Yamaha Scholarship Award for Outstanding Jazz Musicians and graduated in the same year from Trinity College of Music with first class honours. With NYJO, he performed many high-profile gigs (such as at the Albert Hall Proms) and came to the attention of such established masters as Mark Lockheart, Jean Toussaint and Salena Jones, with whom he subsequently worked. Now a regular performer at Ronnie Scott’s, it will be a treat to hear Chris in the intimate settings of the White House!

Also featured for too performance will be the drummer that many of the audience were raving about, following the Julian Nicolas gig: Jay Davis.
