Simon Spillett With Alex Hutton, Mark Hodgson and Mark Doffman
Thursday 24th March 2016
Described by the late Humphrey Lyttelton as "formidable," Simon Spillett has taken the British jazz scene by storm in the last decade; in addition to playing festivals and club dates around the country, Simon leads his own quartet featuring John Critchinson (piano), Alec Dankworth (bass) and Clark Tracey (drums). He has won a clutch of awards for his amazing playing, including the tenor saxophone category of the British Jazz Awards (2011), Jazz Journal magazine's Critic's Choice CD of the Year (2009) and Rising Star in the BBC Jazz Awards (2007). Other celebrated jazz leaders and bands with whom he has worked have included Sir John Dankworth, Stan Tracey, Peter King and The Ronnie Scott's Jazz Orchestra.
Joining Mark Doffman in the rhythm section are two outstanding musicians - Alex Hutton on piano is a fixture at London jazz clubs and has released a series of great albums under his own name, and Mark Hodgson on bass is widely regarded as one finest bassists in the UK with a profile that includes work with Julian Joseph, Randy Brecker, Guy Barker, Billy Cobham and many more.
Join us for a final great gig of this season.
A stunning saxophonist.
