Tim Whitehead With The Spin Trio

Thursday 19th September 2013

A wonderful guest to kick off our Autumn programme - Tim Whitehead is, in the view of many, at the very front rank of UK saxophonists of the last 25 years; the hallmark of his playing is his ability to bring together incredible musical sophistication and powerful, direct emotion.

Although Tim has worked in the bands of many of the leading jazz musicians of the day, it is for leading his own projects that he is best known. He has released nearly a dozen albums over the course of his career featuring some of the great players in European jazz such as Django Bates, John Parricelli, Nic France, Liam Noble and many more.

In the last few years, Tim has worked increasingly with contemporary composers such as Colin Riley and was the first musician to be awarded Artist in Residence at Tate Britain in 2009 from which emerged his album Colour Beginnings, inspired by the painting of J M W Turner. A supreme improviser to lead off our Autumn programme.
