Tim Whitehead With The Spin Trio

Thursday 22nd January 2015

'Whitehead is one of the most creative, exciting and passionate saxophonists in Europe.’ - Ian Carr - Rough Guide to Jazz

'Amid the crowd of anonymous, garrulous and hard-edged tenor saxophonists, Tim Whitehead's music is marked by a sense of grace and economy.'  - Clive Davis - The Times

Since his first public performance playing Mozart's Clarinet Concerto with Simon Rattle as a teenager, Tim has gone on to become one of the most distinguished saxophonists playing in the UK and Europe.

Tim was a founding member of Loose Tubes, played for a number of years with Nucleus, and has led his own bands - each incarnation and album release capturing Tim's own energy and improvisational mastery.

In 2009 he was the first ever musician Artist in Residence at Tate Britain. During the residency he wrote "Colour Beginnings",a series of compositions written from transcribed improvisations performed in front of and in response to a selection of JMW Turner's watercolour sketches – this project has resulted in his most recent album ‘Colour Beginnings’.

One of the finest jazz musicians working in the UK today - a great artist to begin our 2015 season.
