The Spin Jazz Club, Oxford
Robin Aspland
Robin is without a doubt one of the UK's greatest jazz musicians - along with being an exceptional all-round musician. His skills have led him to regular touring and recording with the finest of our players: Dave O'Higgins, Cleo Lane, Claire Martin, Iain Ballamy etc.. Robin was also a first-call sideman for such late-greats as Ronnie Scott, John Dankworth and Kenny Wheeler.
Steve Waterman with The Spin Band
Steve is an incredible musician; a trumpeter that reaches those parts iothers can only dream of!
One of the top and most in-demand players in the country, anybody that has already heard Steve will attest that his performances are always thoroughly exciting and engaging experiences. Steve's back-catalogue includes work with such A-listers as Carla Bley, Andy Sheppard, Vince Mendoza and John Surman, to name but a few.
Tim Whitehead Band
"Those of us who have caught him live have been left in blinking disbelief. It's not just his mastery of the tenor saxophone, phenomenal though it is, but the absolute conviction of his playing that is so impressive" Dave Gelly - The Observer.
Amen to all of the above! Tim is, in our opinion, utterly world class and it a real treat to have him perform at The Spin with his own touring band. What a way to open the new season!
Gilad Atzmon & The Spin Band
We end the 2019 season with one of the most brilliant saxophonists on the planet: Gilad Atzmon. In equal measures, both fearsomely fiery and passionately sensitive, Gilad is a master of many reed instruments (Tenor, alto, soprano saxes, clarinet and bass clarinet.)
Chris Allard & The Spin Band
Chris Allard has become, over the years a 'Spin favourite!' An incredible player who has a fearsome technique, coupled with a flair for melodic and harmonically fascinating composition.
Chris has an ongoing international career (which is why it's been difficult for us to re-book him!) which has seen him touring all over the world with such luminaries as Jacqui Dankworth, Jamie Cullum and Gwilym Simcock.
The Latin Brew-Up!
The Spin welcomes for the first time, this great band which - as the saying goes - does what it says on the tin!
Yeah - fabulous fiesty fare and lucious languid Latino grooves will be served up on this night, bringing the heat of Brazil to an English autumnal night!
Matt Chandler Band
Exceptional guitarist making a most welcome first outing at The Spin.
Hearing this guy left us in no doubt that he should be booked for a date at the club. Please check out the youtube clip below to be in complete agreement with Spin thinking!
David Gordon With The Spin Band
"A richly gifted player with a sparkling style and boundless imagination" - The Independent On Sunday
David has long been one of The Spin's favourite pianists; the quote above really says all that needs to be said!
Adam Glasser
"Excellent Toots-style harmonica.." - Jazz UK
"Lucid harmonica, equally lucid piano" - Glasgow Herald
The above quotes succinctly summarise Adam's multi-instrumental prowess. Many of you will remember his fabulous band that came to the Spin earlier this year, putting on one of the 'gigs of the year'
Nick Meier's World Jazz
Extraordinary, virtuoso guitarist
In the great Jeff Beck's solo career, spanning several decades, there have been very, very few guitarists that were called upon to augment his band; Nick is one of those very, very few guitarists!
Benn Clatworthy & John Donaldson
"An evident musical empathy between these two maestros" - The Observer
A Spin favourite, Benn, is one of the most lyrical and original saxophonists that the UK has produced. Long resident in the U.S.A., Benn has worked and recorded with all sorts of A-listers, including Horace Silver, Billy Higgins, Alex Acuna and Cedar Walton.
Byron Wallen
Byron's always absorbing music genuinely draws in the disparate elements of Africam and Eastern cultures, while retaining true jazz spirit..." The Guardian
Nigel Price
The Spin welcomes back the truly outstanding guitarist, Nigel Price!
Aside from being probably the hardest working guitarist in the country (recent tours of 50+ dates!!), Nigel has garnered numerous prestigious awards, including 'Best Guitarist (british Jazz Award) and 'Best Jazz Ensemble' (Parliamentary Jazz Awards). Nigel has performed over 500 times at Ronnie Scotts, so if that in itself doesn't say something...!!
Theo Travis
The incredible tenor saxophonist returns to The Spin!
Theo Travis will need no introduction to anybody that has an interest in the highest level of jazz, jazz-rock, or - dare we mentin the word - prog! But these catagories need to be mentioned as we are talking associations (world tours!) with, for example: David Gilmour (yeah - he of Pink Floyd); Soft Machine; Gong; Robert Fripp...
Alex Munk's Flying Machines
“Pioneering take on contemporary fusion” Guitarist
"Gritty rock-powered guitar improv" The Guardian
Phil Peskett
Phil Peskett is a thrilling pianist. After studying with Simon Purcell at the Guildhall, Phil became an almost instant fixture on the London jazz/funk circuit, playing with the hippest of hip including Moloko, Natalie Williams, The Cinematic Orchestra and Pete Oxley’s Curious Paradise.
Adam Glasser's SA and Beyond
Adam is one of the few harmonica virtuosos in the world! He is also a great keyboard player.
He also has a KILLER band....and he brings this to The Spin this week.
Gilad Atzmon and the OHE, plus Talinka
One of the most extraordinarily talented saxophonists on this planet, Gilad brings his ever-evolving band to the Spin for a night of outrageously flamboyant - and deeply beautiful - playing!
Tony O'Malley Band
Tony O’Malley is a soul survivor. He co-founded Kokomo in the seventies, who toured with The Average White Band and recorded with Bob Dylan on “Desire”. Meteorite is O’Malley’s eleventh solo album.
